Venus Williams - 3/1
Five time champion and number three seed, Venus Williams comes into Wimbledon as reigning champion and with an air of determination that suggests that she wants a sixth win at this her favourite tournament. She has won the womens singles for last two years here but strangely enough she was not favourite on either occasion to do so. In 2007 she was in fact seeded 23 and last year she was seeded 7, this year however she will be seeded number one and also has climbed the world rankings to be at her highest for some time at number three.
The odds in the women’s singles betting has her as joint favourite with sister, Serena who of course she defeated in the 2008 final in straight sets. The two sisters are around 5/2 but obviously these odds will fluctuate as the tournament progresses. Venus at Wimbledon is a very intimidating player who hits the ball with tremendous might, which often is too much for her opponents on these fast grass courts.
As it stands now we cannot see beyond the Williams sister’s as the winners of the tournament, but which one will lift the trophy remains to be seen. In the last nine years at Wimbledon a William’s sister has been in the final seven times, we strongly believe it will be eight from ten after this year.
