Roger Federer - Odds Evens Fav
Current world number two and holder of this championship until losing it to Rafael Nadal in the 2008 Wimbledone mens singles final. Federer will start the tournament as favourite due to two main reasons, firstly because for the first time he comes to Wimbledon as holder of the French Open which he won for the first time in June and secondly because current champion, Rafa Nadal is nursing an injury, which might yet force him out of the tournament.
Federer equalled the record held by Wimbledon legend, Bjorn Borg in 2007, when he won the mens singles for the fifth consecutive time and is now gunning for the record of seven wins, held by Pete Sampras.
The Swiss player has been in tremendous form over the last couple of months, winning two clay court titles including his first ever French Open. In so doing he became the first player since Andre Agassi to win the four Grand Slam tournaments.
He will start favourite to win the 2009 Wimbledon title and has current odds of around 11/10 in the Wimbledon mens singles betting
Conclusion
If Nadal is unfit, then Federer is certainly the man to beat, but with odds as skinny as 11/10 he does not look good value. We would suggest that he be backed to meet and defeat either Nadal, Andy Murray or Noval Djokovic in the final as it is difficult to see anyone else from the men's singles seedings reaching the final. Tennis backers are reminded that Andy Murray does have a a 6-2 advantage over Federer in their head to head encounters, but the two have yet to meet on grass.
